Veterinary Surgery

Safe, Closely Monitored Surgical Care

Whether elective surgery, biopsy, mass removal or unexpected, our veterinary surgeon helps you keep your cat or dog healthy. Our surgery suite has a heated surgery table to keep your pet warm during a procedure. We have electrocautery instruments, if needed, to make procedures go faster and minimize blood loss.

Since pet surgery is by nature an invasive treatment, all patients must be placed under general anesthesia. We understand if you have concerns about the process, and will be glad to answer your questions. Your pet is monitored closely during all procedures including blood pressure, oxygen carrying capacity, heart rate, respiratory rate along with carbon dioxide buildup. Our suite and surgery protocols are similar to what’s used in human medicine, so we can ensure the best outcome for your companion animal.

The Pet Surgery Services We Offer

We can perform many different cat and dog surgeries to restore our patients’ health and improve their wellbeing. These include, but are not limited to:

How We Keep Pets Safe During Surgery

Safety is always our highest priority before, during and after a pet surgery. To minimize risks and discomfort, our team:

  • Advises pet owners to withhold their pets’ food the night before surgery to prevent vomiting
  • Conducts a pre-anesthetic exam and possible blood work to screen for illness
  • Checks your pet’s weight and medical history to make sure pain control and anesthesia are properly administered
  • Places an IV catheter to provide the patient with fluids and additional pain management
  • Fully monitors each pet during their procedure, keeping an eye on their heart rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and temperature
  • Monitors patients as they are awakening from anesthesia to minimize their stress and make sure the anesthetic is wearing off properly

Do you have concerns about your pet’s surgery or recovery? Let us know by calling (713) 863-0088 or stop in to arrange a meeting with one of our veterinary surgeon’s today.

Why Spay and Neuter Surgery Benefits Pets

Spaying and neutering can effectively reduce stray animal overpopulation and reduce overcrowding in shelters. Additionally, it can benefit pets by helping to prevent breast cancer, testicular cancer, prostatitis, perianal adenoma and pyometra (infected uterus).

Behavioral benefits include less aggression in males, less desire to roam around the neighborhood, and a reduction in inappropriate mounting behaviors in males. Together, the benefits your pet may experience can help them live longer and enjoy a healthier life, too.

For Female Pets: Spaying can prevent them from going into heat, it lessons their desire to roam, which can be dangerous in densely-populated areas, reduces cancer risks, and greatly reduces their risk of developing an infected uterus (pyometra).

For Male Pets: neutering can help reduce aggression, lessens their desire to roam, reduces inappropriate behavior such as urinating/praying, and greatly reduces the risk of prostatitis, testicular cancer, perianal adenoma, and other conditions.
