Your pet’s microchip number is put into an international database. If your animal is picked up by the humane society, or brought to a veterinarian from someone who finds them, they will scan your pet to see if they have been microchipped. If they have been, they will contact you based on the information you provided with the microchip. This is also why it is so important to maintain current information for your pet!
